The Call

About 15 years ago I received a call from God to Washington DC At this point in my life, I had ZERO connections to DC. I had no real interest in politics or government. The call to DC didn’t make sense at all. I had been there one time in my life and had really liked it, but it wasn’t enough to make any sense of why God would be stirring me to go there. For several years I did nothing with this call. Then in 2006, I met Adam who was soon to be my husband. We had several conversations while we were dating about him feeling a call to DC as well. He had multiple dreams of himself living and working there, but again none of it really made any sense because neither of us had any connections to anyone in DC nor any desire to be a part of politics.

Another important point is that right before Adam and I met, God told me one day He was calling me as a “watchman”. Some in spiritual circles may be familiar with the term, but for me, it was completely foreign. I have since learned a great deal about that call, and am walking it out. Without getting too detailed, a “watchman” is an intercessor or prayer warrior who prays on behalf of others. Prayer has always been a huge part of my life, but being called as a “watchman” has a lot more responsibility to its name. If you want to know more about that, read Ezekial’s call to the same role in Ezekiel 3.

Throughout these past 15 years, God has walked me through this calling. He’s sent me incredible mentors and placed a deep deep love in my heart for this nation and our government. Adam and I traveled to DC in the Spring of 2008 to pray about moving there (which we currently have yet to do). It was then I began to understand more of why He was calling me to the city. In quick summary, it was about driving out the darkness that had set up strongholds there. I know its hard to believe there is any darkness in that city (please pick up on my sarcasm), but God told me very clearly that my call was to use my faith as a prayer warrior to drive out established darkness. I could go on and on about what I have learned throughout these years, but I’m going to fast forward for now to 2016.

The Presidential Campaign

God has spoken some pretty unbelievable things to us while unveiling this mysterious call these past 15 years; things which can only be grasped by faith. However, some of our faith began to become sight in 2016. Adam received a call on New Years Eve 2015 to become personally involved in Donald Trump’s campaign. This was a job that was strictly business. It involved editing raw footage of then-candidate Donald Trump from Trump Tower in NYC and creating videos for him to be released on social media. I was not a big fan of Trump’s campaign at this point, but I KNEW God had made this connection happen. In the months to follow, I would walk into Adam’s office while he was displaying unedited footage onto this very screen I work from now, and I would laugh out loud. Love Trump or not, this was hilarious. ONLY God could orchestrate such a thing. I won’t get into our journey on the Trump campaign right now, but, suffice it to say, it was a growth opportunity for which I was ill prepared. But, grow I did. My first lesson included experiencing hate and judgment directed at me for the first time in my life. I was a rookie and, I suppose if you have a calling to Washington DC, you need to be prepared for that reality. So I received a crash course.

During this year of being somewhat involved in a Presidential Campaign (something I NEVER imagined being involved in), I was stretched beyond anything I had experienced before. This caused me to press into God even more. As I sought Him, I heard Him speaking loud and clear. He became a shelter for me in the midst of the chaos and accusation of the political season we were in as a nation. I began to see the same verse over and over again.

2 Chronicles 7:14

“If My people, who are called by My Name, humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.”

It’s an often quoted scripture because it holds a lot of power. It’s a very clear and simple message from God about how to get your life or the life of your nation back on track when it’s falling apart. God highlighted the word “humble” over and over again to me that year. I truly believe now that it’s the key to the healing of a nation. Man’s efforts will only take us so far. I think most of us would agree that our nation is in need of intervention. And if we are willing to be honest with ourselves, we will realize we alone do not have answers. We alone have only gotten ourselves deeper into the hole of a division. The solution begins by humbling yourself first. Humble means “having or showing a modest or low estimate of one’s own importance.”

I would not say I observe much humility in many Americans right now. Most everyone is touting their opinions as if they are gospel. It’s my personal belief that this is the root cause of most of the sins of our nation. We have elevated ourselves and our opinions above everyone else, including God. We have decided our perspectives are the only ones that matter. The way we personally view something has become the universal truth. We confuse facts for truth. We elevate our own desires and ambitions above the heart of God; not only for ourselves as individuals but also for our nation.

Judgment VS. Discernment

God tells us in the above scripture that if we simply humble ourselves before Him, and seek HIS face, and adjust our behavior accordingly, He WILL hear from Heaven and heal the land. The problem is that we continue to believe our own political party is the only one with an answer. We too often listen only to what our pastors and church leaders tell us is the heart of God and we don’t seek God on our own. I sometimes wonder if much of the spiritual and biblical wisdom that gets doled out in the church is really just the pastor’s own personal political knowledge? I’m not suggesting political or church leaders do not carry an aspect of the heart of God. There are a great many spiritual leaders I look up to, and I most certainly listen to their words. But if I mistake it for being 100% a reflection of the heart of God, then I will be severely limited on how I view the world. This is where judgment and discernment come into play.

Judgment is “the ability to make considered decisions”; or as I put it, deciding what to think on a matter based only on the information you contain within yourself. Discernment is “perception in the absence of judgment with a view to obtaining spiritual direction and understanding.” In other words, discernment requires you to lay down your human understanding on a matter, and seek God’s infinite wisdom. I am not saying there is no place for judgment. I am saying, however, we are severely limited if judgment is the sole resource we rely upon to determine the truth of a matter.

Humility is what God required of me over and over again in 2016 during the most contentious election any of us has ever seen. He’s also required it of me every day since. My judgment told me not to support Trump’s campaign. My discernment told me otherwise. I will not get into the depths of what my discernment has revealed to me these past two and a half years; at least not in this post. What I do wish to convey to anyone willing to read this, is that God is speaking to His people. He has been clear to us about the steps necessary for the healing of our land. The question remains, will we faithfully respond and trust that He is infinitely more knowing than we are? Will we trust that He is good and has a pure and uncorrupted heart for all of the various religious and political opinions and perspectives from which we operate? Will we trust that He has the solutions even IF we do not agree with them?

I believe we all have a massive role to play in the healing of America. You must not simply throw up your hands and let Almighty God step in and do everything. We MUST be the hands and feet of the Kingdom of God on the earth. I fully believe He will give us actionable steps in order to inhabit our beloved promised land and drive out the enemy. Please do not hear me say that God is calling us to retreat and ONLY trust in His sovereignty. In fact, I believe it will be quite the opposite. But if your movement on the earth is rooted in your own understanding, and you have yet to step back and take a SERIOUS humility lesson and get on your face before Him, then its quite likely you are in at least some way working in opposition to the movement of God.

The Turnaround

Humility almost ALWAYS requires a changing of your current thoughts and behaviors. It requires a “Teshuvah” as they call it in Hebrew, which is simply translated into ‘repentance’ or ‘turnaround’. If this has not happened, you most likely have not yet given up your own opinions. It’s a painful process, but a freeing one. My humbling process required me giving up all news and news related social media for an extended period of time. Years worth. He told me I had to get rid of my political bias to detect His movement. Trust me, that is not an easy thing to do, but it’s one of the best things I ever did. It was required of me in order to discover Truth. Though I am still on this journey to discover it, He has revealed the spiritual realities of what we are watching play out in the natural realm. I would like to share more of this in some upcoming posts, but it will take some time to layout. I will be using this blog to release the Good Report as He has revealed to me, but I encourage everyone to press in and seek Truth.

He IS Truth. We do not determine what way He should move. But being the magnificent reflectors of His glory that we were created to be, we do get to humble ourselves before Him and step into the spectacular story He is writing before our very eyes. You see, He is FAR from done with this beautiful nation. So much of her story lies before her. America will not be remembered for her great fall. No. She will be remembered as being yet another display of the redemption and mercy of God. She WILL demonstrate to the earth that God is still alive and active and moving powerfully. God told me and my husband several years ago that “America’s best days are ahead of her.” The devil has tried hard to steal her destiny, but I happen to know hundreds of intercessors who have cried out to God, humbly on their faces, for the healing and restoring of this land. God is as we speak, in the middle of doing just that. If you do not believe me, just watch. Receive the Good Report. America will shine once again.
